How to Maintain Your Taylor Ice Cream Machine

The state of Wisconsin is known for its dairy products and has served as the birthplace of some of America’s favorite dairy dishes. For instance, somebody once asked for chocolate sauce on their ice cream, which hadn’t been done before. The vendor complied and the sundae was born.

One of the biggest ice cream machine distributors in the United States has a major branch in Wisconsin. The Taylor Company sells ice cream machines and other equipment all around the world.

If you’ve recently bought a Taylor ice cream machine, but aren’t sure how to maintain it, we can help. We’ll tell you how to keep them running smoothly in this article.

Clean Often

If you’re wondering how often to clean your Taylor ice cream machine, the best answer is daily. The local health department decides how often food-handling equipment needs to be cleaned, and while standards differ from one area to another, some will recommend daily cleaning.

When in doubt, you should always err on the side of caution, so cleaning every day could be your best option. It could save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Empty the Machine

The first step in cleaning a soft serve ice cream machine is to empty it out, and by empty we mean completely empty. Start by mixing warm water with cleaning liquid.

Put the mixture into the machine and turn on the machine’s cleaning cycle. After about five minutes, turn the cleaning function off and pour the cleaning solution out of the machine. This should flush out any food, ice, or ingredients left behind after the day’s use.

Brush the Machine

Once you’ve emptied the cleaning liquid from the machine, the next step is to disassemble it. Unfortunately, while soaking the machine helps, you can’t completely clean it that way.

For that, you’ll have to take the machine apart and manually scrub it with a cloth or brush. Dip your sponge or brush in the cleaning solution and scrub the various machine parts thoroughly.

While the machine is still disassembled, look in the manual to see which parts need to be lubricated and do so. Then, put the machine together, fill it with cleaning solution again, put the wash function on for a minute, and that should be it.

Part Replacement

Not all issues are going to be related to cleaning. Sometimes, parts simply break down and need to be replaced. For this reason, it’s best to keep a few extra parts around, such as O-rings.

An O-ring is a round, plastic device that’s used to seal spaces between connecting parts in various machines. They’re mass-produced, so finding replacements shouldn’t be hard.
